Losing all keys for your vehicle can be a stressful situation, but with the right tools, it’s possible to program a new key yourself. In this guide, we’ll walk through the process of programming a brand-new key for a 2023 GMC Terrain using the OTOFIX IM2 (similar to the Autel IM608 II version). This method also applies to models from 2020 to 2025.
Tools Needed
OTOFIX IM2 Key Programmer(or compatible tool like Autel IM608 PRO2)
A new smart key
Wi-Fi connection (required for the tool to function)
Step-by-Step Process
1. Prepare the Vehicle
Ensure the vehicle has no working keys.
Locate the programming slot under the cup holder (not the phone charging area).
2. Start the Programming Process
Turn on the hazard lights before beginning (this prevents programming loss).
Connect the OTOFIX IM2 and select the “All Keys Lost” option for the GMC Terrain.
Perform an immobilizer scan to confirm no keys are programmed.
3. Security Access
The tool will prompt for a PIN code. If you haven’t saved it, select “Yes” to read it.
Enter the PIN and wait approximately 12 minutes for security access.
4. Key Learning
Once access is granted, the tool will guide you through the key learning process.
Turn off the hazards when prompted.
Press and hold the start button for 10–12 seconds until the cluster lights up.
Ignition may display “No Remote Detected”, but continue holding until the process completes.
5. Final Steps
Switch the ignition off and test the new key by starting the vehicle.
Open and close the driver’s door to finalize programming.
Test the lock/unlock and start functions to ensure the key works properly.
